    • I seat close to the window's plane. So I can see views and panorama freely. Emirat also provide us -the passengers- with information, communication and entertainment videos.
I enjoy a lot, watching linked in learning videos. Whereas I prepare for my paper presentation in next few days at the Netherlands.

  • Here is the foods on Emirate plane on my first occasion. Yeay. They have some options and let us choose our preferences from the menu. Like at restaurant, right?

De Burcht van Leiden

De Burcht van Leiden

Writravelicious continue to Leiden journey today. We're heading to De Burcht van Leiden. Along the road, we enjoy the city, the building, the rood, the trees, the park, the canal, the bridge, the sky, the cafe, the people, etc.

Some walls at Leiden are decorated with poems and poetry. Some are written in English, some in Dutch, some in Arabic, etc.

So beautiful and intriguing effort to educate and elevate society's art sense.

I get many real samples of architecture spacious design at exterior and environmental through this Leiden walking tour

Hartebrugkerk
“19th century Catholic church in Protestant city”

19th century Catholic church in Protestant city
Completed in 1836, just six years before the railway line to Haarlem was opened which for most citizens of Leiden at the time was perhaps more important. At the beginning of the 19th century Leiden was a city in decline.
The Hartebrugkerk ( church) is located in the middle of one of the biggest shopping streets of Leiden. It's the first official Catholic Church in the city of Leiden. A huge monument in a neoclassic style
atholic Church in the heart of the Reformation
This is a beautiful church and the entrance is free. However, there church interior is barred from going past the nave. You can look through the bars into the church but you cannot enter the sanctuary

on my first time going to this Mc D, I only take pict. The seccond time when going with Bapakku di Leiden's family, we go inside and hang out while take a brunch and enjoying ice cream. The feel and ambiance is different.

There are some road climbs and road derivatives which make Leiden more interesting.
The housing, the road, the lamp, all so simple but neat beautiful.

There are two lovers in the fortress whose remind of you

de Burcht van Leiden

Kind of impressive that this is the biggest hill that you can see - and it was entirely man-made in the 11th century. The remains of a castle (only the outer wall) are on the top of the hill, climbing up affords beautiful views of the city.

It took us a bit to find the entrance - the stairs are at the NW end of a courtyard that was taken over by the restaurants on either side. So you have to wander to the back of the seating area to find the stairs.

It was worth the view though, it offers nice views of the surrounding area.

the Pieterskerk. It is the oldest city church in Leiden, a beautiful monument with a long history. The church was founded in 1121 as a count’s chapel and evolved into a sizeable church with an impressive interior, stained glass windows and a 16th century organ.

Jan Steen’s grave
The Pieterskerk also suffered from the Beeldenstorm, the iconoclastic movement in 1566. The Catholic church’s interior was destroyed and it was even used as a Protestant church six years later. Today it is filled with special, ancient monuments including a late Gothic pulpit and about 10 memorial stones. This is also where you will find the grave of the old master Jan Steen.

Pieterskerk tour
The Pieterskerk (Peter's Church) in Leiden is open to the public unless events are scheduled. The entry price is €3 and voluntary donations are much appreciated. The staff is happy to tell you about the history of this urban icon in Leiden. A pre-booked guided tour costs €75 (incl. taxes). The maximum number of visitors per tour is 15.

bapakku di leiden borrow us 2 train cards. So Ning and I can top up and use it while we're traveling around the netherland.
For first time, I am topping up 15 euro. Ning used conventional way by coming to the cashier locket. While I used digital way by swiping my visa card via ticket machine.
We move from Amsterdam Schiphol to Leiden by train after getting some pictures in front of the airport.
It took around 15 minutes from schiphol to one station before Leiden. we have to transit here. Then it took 10 minutes to Leiden.
All the way we enjoy the view of green fields. But there's no more blooming tulips because it's mid of June. Tulip already blooming at April.

trains and any public transportation in the Netherlands are so clean, neat, comfortable. Anyone using them with a great consciousness to keep them well.
Many dutch keep silence in their activities including staying at trains without any noise. So everyone else can study, read, work with the laptop, etc while they are moving with the train to their offices, schools, campus etc.
We arrived at Leiden Central when sky is still bright. By the way on this time's journey, we don't worry at all because In this summer, we have longer day than the night. Sunset will happen at 10 pm, and sunrise at 4 am. So we have many times to make activities while 2 weeks on europe.

In the end of our Europe trip, the canal tour guide also mention about some architecture house type. I record and upload it at YouTube account diannafi also.

Rembrandt in fact lived in the same district as the Pilgrim Fathers, in the area surrounding the iconic Pieterskerk – a late-Gothic church dedicated to Saint Peter, and the final resting place of famous scientists and dignitaries, including Rembrandt’s prolific contemporary genre painter Jan Steen. Steen, Rembrandt and other Dutch Masters like Jan Lievens and Jan van Goyen, thrived in and drew inspiration from Leiden, and together created a body of work that left its mark on both the city and the world. Rembrandt’s career had an early start in his home city, where he produced more than 40 paintings. Some of these, including ‘Brillenverkoper’ (‘The Spectacles Salesman’, 1624) and a self-portrait (1626) are owned by Museum De Lakenhal, along with many drawings and etchings. The museum, located in a former guild hall for cloth merchants, is under renovation until the spring of 2019.

Walking through Leiden today you’ll see thousands of monuments from, and mementos dedicated to, that time. The city is home to over 3,000 statues and monuments, and is remarkable in how well it has preserved the spirit of the Golden Age.

  • Rembrandt is one of the greatest painters that has ever lived, and he was born in Leiden. Known for his ingenious use of light and shadow, and his life like portraits.

Rembrandt was born as a simple millers son. But it quickly showed that he was not made for a life as a miller. He showed little interest in the academic arts. All he wanted to do was paint.

There are many attractions and stories left from Rembrandt's 17th century Leiden. Walk in his footsteps and visit the place where he was born, his Latin school, his church, and much more!

we can (and ought to) practically follow a young Rembrandt’s footsteps around Leiden, starting with a walk around Rembrandt Bridge and Rembrandt Park; the park is very near the Weddesteeg, where the Dutch Master was born – you’ll find a statue and gable stone marking his birthplace. Then walk through his home neighbourhood of the Pieterskwartier via the grand Rapenburg canal, and visit Pieterskerk – this deconsecrated church has some stunning epitaphs, tombstones and artifacts on display. Next head to the Latin School where Rembrandt was educated, and Leiden University where he was briefly enrolled. From there, visit Jacob van Swanenburg’s workshop where Rembrandt started an apprenticeship – Jan Steen would later move almost next door, and you can see a gable stone there commemorating that. Rembrandt soon took his own studio at Kort Galgewater, near the Stadstimmerwerf, and instructed a generation of painters. Leiden's Gerrit Dou was the first of these, and his teacher’s influence is abundantly clear in his work, something you can see for yourself at Museum De Lakenhal.

  • While standing on the Rembrandt Bridge (1), the river Rhine flows beneath you. This is the river that Rembrandt owns his last name to, since the Dutch name for Rhine is Rijn.

From this bridge you have a beautiful view. On the north side of it you see a windmill. This is a windmill similar to the windmill Rembrandt's parents used to own. Windmill de Put as it is called is a reconstruction from 1619 and used to grind grain in to flour.

If you look towards the east, the streets are called Het Galgenwater of the Gallow Waters. It was here where criminals where hung to send a message to anyone entering the city, that criminal activity was not tolerated.
